But the Vegan Spirit Lives On in the City
It's with a mix of disappointment and understanding that the organizers of 'Veganes Sommerfest Berlin' announced the cancellation, a cherished tradition that has welcomed thousands of visitors since its inception in 2008. Originally a modest park gathering with 300 attendees, the festival has blossomed into Europe's largest vegan festival, featuring over 130 international exhibitors from the food, cosmetics, and clothing sectors.
The festival, organized by ProVeg, Berlin-Vegan, and the Albert Schweitzer Foundation, has faced challenges in recent years, including a significant drop in both exhibitors and visitors in 2023, signaling a need for a strategic realignment to better reflect the evolving, plant-based zeitgeist. Despite this setback, the impact of veganism continues to grow, with a vast array of vegan products now mainstream in supermarkets and restaurants alike.
For those who had hoped to partake in the festivities, all is not lost. Berlin remains a hotspot for vegan living, and you can still experience the city's vegan delights through the VeganBerlin map. This guide offers curated walks that highlight vegan hotspots, allowing you to discover hidden gems and enjoy the vibrant vegan culture that thrives in Berlin.
Participants in past editions of 'Veganes Sommerfest Berlin' have included a diverse array of stakeholders from various sectors, contributing to a rich and engaging festival experience. As I look forward to next year, I really hope that the 'Veganes Sommerfest Berlin' will return, rejuvenated and ready to celebrate the plant-based lifestyle that has become a significant part of our society.
